Policy Activities

The policy activities of the EU Civil Society Contact Group are driven by two main themes:

Participatory democracy - At a time of further questioning of the role of NGOs, the Civil Society Contact Group will continue making the case for participatory democracy and civil dialogue as part of it, avoid a backlash and pave the way for a better, more inclusive and enabling participation of NGOs at EU and national level. In this context we also follow the European Transparency Initative and the evaluation of a the European Commission's register for interest representatives as well as the interinstiutional work for a joint register.

Future of EU - 2009 is the year of the next European Parliament elections and of the review of the EU budget. It will also see a new European Commission and possibly the coming into effect of the Lisbon Treaty.
